What is Hot Stone Reflexology?

Hot Stone Reflexology is a technique of applying pressure to the reflexes on the lower legs and feet using heated stones. This brings about a state of deep relaxation and helps stimulate the body’s own healing process.

The Ancient Healing art of stone therapy using warm stones relaxes the body at its deepest level effectively creating harmony and balance. The subtle energy of the stones introduced into a treatment helps calm the senses, relaxes tense muscles and assists to promote a meditative state.

It is believed that heat penetrates to a much deeper level than thumb or finger level, some say reach around 7 cm into tissues, others claim that using hot stones is ten times more effective than using our hands. The physiological changes as well as warming, deeply relaxing and soothing, help melt away anxiety and tension.

There is no medical research that directly links hot stones to physical healing however what is apparent is that the heat relaxes the muscles allowing the Reflexologist to reach deeper into the reflex points than using hands alone.

Stones are used firstly to massage the lower legs relieving tension in the calf muscles and enhancing energy flow. Smaller stones are used to work the reflex areas and points on the feet. Heat from the stones quickly opens the reflex pathways to bring about a much deeper level of relaxation.
